What hardware you need

Also known as: kit, equipment, POS hardware, what to buy, BYOD setup, tablet POS, iPad POS, hardware list.

brasio is software, not a locked-down terminal. It runs on any modern device with a browser (updated Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox): iPad, Android tablet, Windows, Mac or even a phone. We don't send you hardware — you buy the kit that suits your venue best, and brasio runs on top of it.

This is what we recommend to get you open on day one.

The till

The most comfortable setup is a 10–13″ tablet mounted on the bar. iPad or Android tablet work brilliantly. If you already have a computer or laptop on the bar, brasio works there too — just open the browser and log into your account. We recommend a touchscreen for speed of service.

For table orders, any phone or small tablet your staff can carry works fine.

The thermal printer

You need an 80 mm thermal printer that can be installed as the OS default printer on the till device. We recommend the Epson TM-T20 series with Ethernet interface by default, but any 80 mm thermal printer with an IP on the local network works.

Reserve a static IP for the printer in your venue's router. See Connect your thermal printer for the step-by-step.

For a single-printer setup, brasio prints to the OS default printer — receipts, kitchen tickets and pre-bills all go to the same printer. For venues that want separate kitchen and bar printers, the ESC/POS bridge with per-category routing is available — see Route tickets across multiple printers.

The cash drawer

Any standard cash drawer with an RJ11 connector works. The drawer doesn't connect to the till — it connects to the thermal printer with an RJ11 cable. When the ticket prints, the printer sends the open pulse. See Connect your cash drawer.

Card payments with SumUp

To take card payments, brasio works with SumUp. You use the SumUp app on your phone or a SumUp card reader (Air, Solo, or pinpad) to process the charge, then confirm in brasio. The till and the card reader don't need to be on the same Wi-Fi network. See Taking card payments with SumUp.

Per-transaction fees are handled by SumUp directly with your merchant account. Brasio takes no cut of the payment.

The network

You need a router or access point with DHCP that covers the working area. The till device and the printer must be on the same subnet (same SSID over Wi-Fi, or same VLAN over cable). If you use two APs in the venue, make sure they're bridged.

Using brasio from multiple devices

One brasio account can be used from multiple devices at the same time — the till on the bar, staff phones and tablets on the floor, and your laptop when you're reviewing reports from home. Each user logs in with their PIN; the device doesn't matter.

Not sure where to start?

If you're missing something from the list or you have a compatibility question, drop us a line before you buy anything. We'll confirm the exact model for your case. If your venue's network gives you trouble, see The printer or the POS can't be seen on the network.
