Pay with SumUp on your mobile (app-switch)

Pay with SumUp on your mobile (app-switch)

Also known as: app-switch, Pay with SumUp, automatic app switching, Tap to Pay on your mobile.

On the waiter’s mobile, brasio can open the SumUp app directly on the same phone with the exact amount already entered, so you don’t have to type it in twice or switch apps manually.

How it works

In the table details on your mobile:

  1. Tap Pay with SumUp.
  2. brasio opens the SumUp app on the same phone, with the exact bill amount already filled in.
  3. Process the payment in SumUp as usual — using the Air card reader or Tap to Pay on your mobile.
  4. Once the payment is complete in SumUp, you’ll automatically return to brasio and the table will already appear as closed.

There’s no need to confirm anything in brasio: returning from SumUp closes the bill automatically.

Before you use it

You’ll need the following on the same mobile:

  • The SumUp app installed.
  • A session open in the SumUp app using the venue’s merchant account.

Without this, Pay with SumUp cannot open the app correctly.

If the return to brasio fails

If, for any reason, the phone does not return to brasio after taking payment via SumUp (the app closes, the connection is lost, or the operating system interrupts the app switch), the table remains open in brasio — even if the payment via SumUp went through successfully.

  • Before attempting to take another payment, open the SumUp app and check whether the payment has already been processed, to avoid charging the customer twice.
  • If a SumUp payment was recently initiated for that table and has not been closed, brasio displays a notification on the table screen to remind you to check SumUp before processing the payment again.
  • Once you’ve confirmed there’s no duplicate payment, try again via brasio, or close the table manually from the till once you’re clear about the result in SumUp.

Close tables before the end-of-day cash-up

Just as with any payment made via mobile: close all tables before the end-of-day cash-up and the Z-report. A table closed via mobile after the end-of-day cash-up will not be included in that night’s Z-report. See Cash management and end-of-service.

Not working?

  • The SumUp app won’t open: check that it’s installed and that you’re logged in on that mobile. See Taking card payments with SumUp.
  • I took a payment via SumUp but the table is still open in brasio: the automatic return has failed. Check in the SumUp app that the payment has gone through, and avoid charging twice — then close the table manually.
  • brasio alerts you to a recent SumUp payment at that table: this means a payment was initiated via SumUp for that table recently without the closure being confirmed. Check in SumUp before continuing.
  • I need to add a tip or split the bill: the app-switch charges the full amount of the bill. To add a tip or split the bill, do so from the till.
