Printer not printing

Printer not printing
Also known as: printer not working, no printout, no salen tickets, impresora no imprime, paper jam, paper out, printer offline.
When tickets don't come out, work through these steps in order.
Step 1: Check the printer is on, has paper, and the lid is closed
- The green power light should be solid (not blinking).
- Make sure there's paper on the roll. A red PAPER indicator usually lights up when the roll runs out.
- Close the lid firmly until you hear a click. If the lid is even slightly open, the printer won't print.
Step 2: Confirm the OS default printer is set correctly
Brasio prints to whatever printer is set as the default on the device's operating system. There is no printer setting inside brasio itself.
- Windows: Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners. The default printer has a checkmark. If your thermal printer isn't shown or isn't the default, see Connect your thermal printer.
- macOS: System Settings → Printers & Scanners. Confirm the thermal printer is shown and set as default.
- iPad / Android: Use the manufacturer's app (Epson iPrint, etc.) to confirm the printer is connected.
Step 3: Check Chrome is in kiosk-printing mode (if print dialogs appear every time)
If a browser print dialog appears before every ticket, Chrome is not in kiosk-printing mode. This isn't a failure — the ticket will still print after you confirm — but it slows down service. To remove the dialog permanently:
Launch Chrome with --kiosk-printing:
chrome --kiosk-printing https://<your-slug>.brasio.io
Add this to your startup shortcut or script. See Connect your thermal printer for the full setup.
Step 4: Manually trigger a kitchen ticket
To confirm the print path is working, go to an open table in the till, add any product, and tap Cocina (kitchen button) to send a kitchen ticket. If a ticket comes out, the print path is fine and the issue was something transient.
If nothing comes out, the browser may not be sending print jobs to the printer. Check that the printer is reachable on the network:
- Ping the printer's IP from the till device (use a terminal app or the OS network diagnostics).
- Make sure the till device and the printer are on the same network (same Wi-Fi SSID or same wired subnet).
Step 5: Restart the printer
If the printer was working and has suddenly stopped, a quick restart often clears a locked print queue:
- Switch the printer off with the rear power switch.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Switch it back on and let it warm up.
Then try a print again.
Not resolved?
If the printer still doesn't print after all of the above, write to us with:
- The device and OS you're using as the till (e.g. iPad, Windows tablet, MacBook).
- The printer model.
- Whether the browser print dialog appears or not.
- Whether a test print from the OS (outside of brasio) works.
For network connectivity issues between the till and the printer, see The printer or the POS can't be seen on the network.
